The Scheia Fortress

The Scheia fortress, built at the end of the 14th century is less known to the wide public, perhaps because it collapsed even before the construction was finished. Also known under the name of the Suceava West Fortress, this is a fortress in ruin situated in the North-West side of Suceava Municipality.

The Scheia fortress, along with the lordly courts, monasteries with high walls and other fortresses, was part of the fortification system built in Moldavia at the end of the 14th century, for the defence against the Ottoman Empire’s attacks.
