Vatra Dornei is the most suitable place for paragliding, due to the special conditions of the Suhard Mountains, especially Ousorul peak, which is considered to be one of the most auspicious for aeronautical sports, especially paragliding and hang-gliding. We can find here the strongest air-currents in Romania and, with a little talent in paragliding you can glide for hours over Dornelor Depression, using the currents. It can be done the whole year also in Prisaca Dornei, Pojorata, Udesti, Parhauti.
The flights are done using a paraglider with two boards, the tourists being accompanied by an experienced instructor pilot.
A single flight takes about 4-6 hours. The pilots with no license must follow a 7 days course held by an experienced pilot. The courses consist in theoretical and practical studies. The students are gradually initiated in this sport, first by making exercises at higher and higher altitudes, and then being carried to the launching place in 6×6 terrain vehicles.
