Ovidiu Botoni, principal of Explore Bucovina, acted as our guide in October 2016 during several days in Suçeava, Romania, where we stayed while visiting Painted Monasteries.  He speaks excellent English, and he is knowledgable about the Bucovina area. The beautiful monasteries were enriched by Ovidiu’s knowledge of the content of the paintings and the history of the buildings.  The interiors and exteriors are covered with complicated stories interpreted in the Romanian Orthodox tradition from the Christian Bible.  The architecture and the garden settings of the monasteries are remarkable.  We saw the Carpathian Mountains in an early snow, visited the town known for black pottery, and saw two private museums with Ovidiu.  The museums included a painted egg display originating in Romania and all over the world, and an exhibit of the history of regional artefacts including fascinating antique Carnival Masks.  He introduced us to Bucovina cuisine and Romanian wine as well.  Ovidiu was flexible with our time requests, and his car was comfortable.  We highly recommend his guiding services.
