Tour description:
Medieval Transilvania Tour is a 4 days tour, highly recommended for those who don’t have a very long stay in Romania but don’t want to miss the highlights of Transylvania and at the same time to discover the authenticity of Transylvania far from the beaten tracks.
We will start our journey in Bucharest, the capital and the biggest city in Romania. Bucharest is one of the most vibrant cities in Europe. It is young, dynamic and fun, but most of all is a city of contrasts.
After we leave Bucharest and Walachia behind us, we will head north facing the Carpathian mountains on Prahova Walley at the foot of the Bucegi mountains. We will reach Sinaia, also known as “The Pearl of the Carpathians” and we will visit the Peles Castle, probably the most beautiful castle in Romania and one of the best in Europe. Peles Castle was the summer residence of Carol I, the first king of modern Romania. Over 40 years, dozens of architects, hundreds of artists and woodcarvers, brought inside Peles Castle the Europe’s best artwork and interior design from XV to XX centuries.
There is no tour in Transylvania without a visit to Bran Castle, famous all around the world as “Dracula’s Castle”. Once there you are going to find out the historical truth about “Vlad the Impaler” and Bran Castle with its stories about the Teutonic Knights, wars between powerful empires and stories about our beloved Queen Mary.
We will spend our first night in Transylvania in Brasov, one of Transylvania’s jewels. Framed by the mountains, it has a medieval mountain flair, gothic and baroque architecture together with a multitude of restaurants, bars and cafes. After Brasov we will continue to step into Transylvania Saxon past with a visit to the fortified churches (Prejmer or Harman), both UNESCO listed. Medieval walls are enclosing their splendid Gothic churches.
The Medieval Transylvania Tour will continue inside the “Saxon Land” and for the next 2 nights, we will stop overnight in Sighisoara and Sibiu. Sighisoara is a fortified medieval town (UNESCO listed), with its pastel-coloured buildings, stony lanes and medieval towers, making you feel like a fairytale character. Another interesting fact is that Sighisoara is the birthplace of “Vlad the Impaler” or “Dracula”, and we can see the authentic house where he was born in 1431.
We will spend our last night of the Medieval Transilvania Tour in Sibiu, the European cultural capital of 2007, made up of a medley of Germanic 17th century buildings, joined by winding cobblestone alleys, the city grants you the pleasure of discovering architectural treasures that transport you back in time.
For the last day, we have 2 options for our return to Bucharest: the Valley of Olt or the Transfagarasan road, one of the most spectacular roads in the world (available only during the summer). The last stop before Bucharest will be the orthodox monastery of Curtea de Arges, very beautiful and very famous for the legends about “Master Manole”.
We end our journey in Bucharest (or another place at your request).
